He died June 3, 2002 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. Pastor Betty J. Stedman and Pastor Wilfred Hanson officiated. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock was in charge of arrangements. Norris Burdette Johnson was born Jan. 4, 1906 on the family farm in Broe Township near Baker to Bernhard and Gina Baglien Johnson. He was raised and attended grade school in Broe Township. He attended Baker High School and Interstate Business College in Fargo. He spent a few months on the West Coast, returning home to assume the operation of the family farm when his parents became ill. He also ran the grain elevators at Baker and Fillmore from 1956 to 1977. He married Evelyn Olson May 2, 1934. She died from pneumonia Feb. 7, 1935. He married Florence Olson Dec. 20, 1940 at Esmond. All but a few months of his life were lived on the family farm in Broe Township. On Dec. 28, 2001 he became a resident at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care Unit in Rugby. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a trustee for many years. He was also a member of the Farmers Union and the Esmond Golden Age Club. He enjoyed traveling. Survivors include his wife; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Merwyn and Barbara Johnson of Monroe, Wash., Glenn and Judy Johnson of Jamestown, Darrell and Lois Johnson of Brinsmade and Jerry and Bonnie Johnson and Lanny Johnson of Esmond; five daughters, Betty and Marlo Bergsgaard of Finley, Noreen and Bill Wright of Spanaway, Wash., Kathy and Dave Bjornstad of Walhalla and Deanna and Frank Head and Lori and Doran Nelsen of Surrey; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville Johnson of Sarasota, Fla.; and a sister, Addoris Toso of Esmond. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; four grandchildren, Robbie Ness, Jerrad & Jeremiah Johnson and an infant; a great-great-grandson, Chase Cadwell; two sisters, Gladys Mathison and Lillian Toso; and five brothers, Clarence, Vernon, Roy, Gordon and Lorraine Johnson.
