Gill, 100, Rapid City, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at a Rapid City nursing home. She was born Feb. 20, 1900, at Epiphany, the daughter of Nicholas F. and Anna K.(Kuhl) Even. She attended grade school and high school at Sioux Falls and then worked as office manager at Gill's Department Store in Sioux Falls from 1924 to 1929. On June 15, 1926, she married Gerald J. Gill at Sioux Falls. In 1929, they moved to Rapid City, where she was manager-buyer for Gill's Ladies Wear in Rapid City. From 1941 to 1945, she was an Air Force wife, living in St. Louis, Mo., Wichita Falls, Texas, Atlantic City, N.J., and Denver. They returned to Rapid City, and she was director and vice president of Gill's Sun Inn (Motor Hotel) from 1946 to 1981. In 1982, they moved to San Antonio, Texas, and lived at Resident Air Force Village Retirement Community for retired Air Force officers, wives, widows and widowers. They returned to Rapid City in 1989, and she had lived at Westhills Village since. She was a member of Black Hills Zonta Club from 1955 to 1981 and served as director, treasurer and chairman of numerous committees. She was past president of Rapid City Motel Association and a past member of the South Dakota Innkeepers Association, Best Western International, a worldwide lodging association, Knights Ladies, an auxiliary of Knights of Columbus, Retired Officers Association of U.S. Armed Forces, Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral Parish, and St. Rose Guild. Survivors include a son, Gerald J. Gill, Rapid City; a daughter, Patricia Seefeldt, Rapid City; a brother, Ray Even, Carmichael, CA; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald J. Gill; a son, Robert B. Gill; one sister; and one brother. Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City is in charge of arrangements. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 30, at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with the Rev. Brian Christensen as celebrant. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. (Thank you Frankie for the obit.)
