Description	:	Florence Marie Jennings, daughter of Cecil and Minnie (Revell) Thyer, was born on March 23, 1916 in rural Volga, IA, and grew up on the family farm. She taught school for six years at country school in the area. She married Keith Jennings on June 12, 1940, in Elgin, IA. They lived their entire married life in the Wadena area. Read More	Florence Marie Jennings, daughter of Cecil and Minnie (Revell) Thyer, was born on March 23, 1916 in rural Volga, IA, and grew up on the family farm. She taught school for six years at country school in the area. She married Keith Jennings on June 12, 1940, in Elgin, IA. They lived their entire married life in the Wadena area. After many years of substitute teaching, Florence resumed teaching full time and taught at the Wadena Grade School until it closed. Florence was a member of the Wadena United Brethren Church and later the Wadena Presbyterian Church. She was known for her quilt making, her groundcherry pies, writing poetry, and gardening. She was a community volunteer, serving as Senior Citizens Meal Site manager for several years. She was given an award by Governor Branstad for her service. Whe was a member of the Women's Missionary Association, Chi Anedaw Federated Club, and the Red Hat Society. Florence's death occurred on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, IA, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda "Deon" (Tom) Roys of West Union, IA.; three sons, Dean (Diana) Jennings of Puyallup, WA., Neal (Connie) Jennings of Hudson, WI., Gary (JaneAnne) Jennings of Venice, FL.; one brother Frank (Francis) Thyer of Randalia, IA.; one sister Opal Colvin of Postville, IA.; a daughter-in-law Linda Jennings of Saunemin, IL.; numerous nieces and nephew; and 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Keith; both parents; her son, Paul; a great-grandson Justin; a sister Mary; and her brothers Jim, Ernest, and Charles. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Wadena Community Church in Wadena, IA. Interment will be held following the service at Wadena Cemetery, Wadena, IA. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm Friday, May 27, 2011 at S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Fayette, IA.
