"Florence Mitchell Stevenson, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stevenson, died at her home near Churdan last Wednesday, after an illness of several weeks, of septic poisoning. Her brief span of life less than 32 uneventful years was spent in Greene county, her birth having taken place on the Stevenson farm in Willow township, October 18, 1875. In the year 1897 she moved with her parents to Jefferson, this being her home until early in 1903. On January 29, of that year, she was wedded to Mr. Harry Kloss, going with him to a farm in Dawson township, north of Jefferson. The following year they moved one mile east of Churdan, which was their home at the time of her death. "Florence had been a member of the M.E. Church from childhood, being one of those quiet Christian girls whose beautiful character shone forth with brilliant luster among those with whom she associated. There never was a more happy marriage than hers. Life for Mr. and Mrs. Kloss had all that was bright for the future. Pleasant anticipations of `getting ahead,' the goal of all young married folks, was being realized in a most satisfactory way. Their love grew stronger with the passing years, making the severance by death all the more terrible to bear. With all of life's uncertainty there was nothing to give them thought of so sad a parting as that brought about by the touch of angel hands. "Hers was the third death in the Stevenson families within three months. The good grandmother went to her reward in December, followed a few short weeks ago by the untimely passing of the dear little baby Luther. With this added sadness upon fond hearts the deep sympathy of Greene county people go out in most expressive form, particularly at this time to her broken hearted husband, and to her parents whose love for their daughter, since she first opened her baby eyes to earth, has been boundless. "The last sad rites were conducted at her late home near Churdan at 8 o'clock Friday morning, conducted by Rev. Zimmerly, of the Churdan M.E. church, assisted by Rev. Gray of the Presbyterian church. A large gathering of friends attested their kindly feeling and sympathy. The remains were brought to Jefferson on the morning train and taken direct to the cemetery, where brief services were held at the grave. The pall bearers locally were: Messrs. A.S. Gilliland, J.W. Fitz, E.S. Gose, O.L. Dick, Fred B. Anderson and P.O. Brown."
