The photo shows Harry with his father-in-law, John Stevenson, and his first wife's two brothers, and two brothers-in-law. The caption on the photo gives no indication that Harry was regarded as anything other than a member of the family, although, he had by then, a daughter by his second wife. Harry had four, survived by three children: Pauline Barnes, Harry DeVere Kloss, and Alma Alberta -- all listed as living at home at the time of his death. Pauline (Kloss) Barnes and Wilma Kloss advertised a furniture auction on July 25, 1942. Harry's birth date is listed as May 4, 1879. He is said to have come to Iowa at the age of six weeks, and made his home in the Dawson Twp. for about 15 years. Harry entered the employ of the Dudley Mercantile Company in 1908 and later had an interest in the establishment. After his marriage to Wilma he sold his interest and purchased a grocery store at Goldfield. The couple returned to Churdan in 1911 and he conducted business for over 20 years. (pg 64) listed as "General Store" owner H.A. Kloss in 1914 (pg 138) ... He retired in 1931 due to poor health; and cause of death is reported as a heart attack (obit). Harry Adam Kloss was buried at Highland Twp Cemetery, with marker inscribed "Father". One large Kloss headstone is shared north to south by: Alberta, H. Devere, Wilma, Harry.
