Description	:	Florence Genevieve Rice, age 90, of Hedrick died Wednesday, March 24th, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. She was born July 15th, 1913 in Benton Township, Keokuk County to Fredrick H. and Marie Schmidt Ritter. Florence was united in marriage to Martin Rice on January 17th, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa. Together they farmed north of Hedrick their entire lives until retiring in 1980. Together they farmed north of Hedrick their entire lives until retiring in 1980. Mrs. Rice is survived by her son, Jerry and his wife Georgia of rural Hedrick; a daughter, Joy Murphy of Urbandale; a sister, Margie Young of Fruita, Co.; five grandchildren, David Rice, Beth Brokenshire, Sean Murphy, Brian Murphy, and Bridget Kelsey, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Martin, and an infant son, Dwight Rice. She was raised and educated in the rural Fremont and Hedrick areas, graduating from Fremont High School in 1931. Her hobbies included sewing, making quilts for church projects, gardening, teaching Sunday School, and serving as a 4-H Leader. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hedrick where she was baptized and was very active in the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to either St. Paul Lutheran Church Women or The Gideon Bible Society.
