Music was furnished by Mrs. Margaret Wright and Mrs. Fred Lark, who sang, "In the Garden," "Ivory Palaces," and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Mrs. O. F. Ehlers was the organist. Casket bearers were Lloyd Paulson, Ruddie Paulson, Hans Giese, Bill Nelson, Glen Asklund and Roy Samuelson. Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery. Florence Ruevilla Merriam, daughter of Herschel and Minnie Mae Field was born February 5, l900, at Orson, Iowa, and passed away September 28, 1946, at the Boone County Hospital at Boone, Iowa, at the age of forty-six years, seven months and twenty-three days. At the age of four, she, with her parents moved to Pierce, Nebraska, where the father was engaged in farming. Three years later at the death of her paternal parent, the family moved to Modale, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. At the age of sixteen the mother's sudden demise shifted a great family burden to her shoulders, which she capably assumed. Her education was obtained in the Modale school where she graduated with honors in l919. Her fine religious training began early in life, and in 1917 she was baptized in the Modale Church of Christ, where she maintained her membership until her marriage, having then transferred her membership to the Community Methodist Church at Ogden, where she had since been an active and faithful member. On July 1, 1919, she was united in marriage to Melvin E. Merriam of Ogden, at Boone, Iowa. To this union three sons and one daughter were born; Melvin Ernest Jr., Robert Emery, and Edward Weston, the daughter having died in infancy. Florence, as she herself preferred to be called, gave generously of her time and effort in the community, wherever it was most needed. Her church activities were of utmost importance in her daily life, although she found time in her busy routine, to be active in P.T.A., American Legion Auxiliary, and the United Service Women's Organization. Her love of young people extended beyond her own family, as she maintained a very large list of correspondents among the young service men in her own community, during the recent war. She found it a pleasure and a duty to offer bits of advice, where she could see that it would accomplish good. She leaves to mourn her loving husband, Melvin E., three sons, Melvin E. Jr. of Clear Lake, Iowa, Robert E. and Edward W., of Ogden and Viola, the wife of Melvin Junior, and one grandson, Robert Lyman. She also leaves to mourn three sisters, Mila Lanyon, Omaha, Nebraska, Bertha Merriam of Boone, Iowa, Lois Vetter of Everett, Washington, and one brother, Otis Field of Modale, Iowa, besides many other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed in her home and by her neighbors and a multitude of friends.
