Description	:	Daughter of Elmer and Grace Mary Edmonston Lawrence Topeka--Florence S. Zane, 81, died Nov. 3, 1993, at a Topeka retirement home. She was born Feb. 6, 1912, at Protection, the daughter of Elmer G. and Grace M. Edmonston Lawrence. She graduated from Protection High School in 1929. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Kansas State Teacher's College, Emporia, earning additional hour at the University of Maryland. Read More	Daughter of Elmer and Grace Mary Edmonston Lawrence Topeka--Florence S. Zane, 81, died Nov. 3, 1993, at a Topeka retirement home. She was born Feb. 6, 1912, at Protection, the daughter of Elmer G. and Grace M. Edmonston Lawrence. She graduated from Protection High School in 1929. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Kansas State Teacher's College, Emporia, earning additional hour at the University of Maryland. She taught at Lowman Hill and West Avondale Elementary School in Topeka from 1955 to 1963, and served as special reading teacher from 1963-1965. In 1965, she became principal of Polk Elementary until 1971, when she transferred as principal to Lundgren Elementary School. She retired in 1977. Prior to moving to Topeka, she taught three years at Oakley, and served seven years as secretary to superintendant of schools at Protection. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the local, state and national Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, past secretary of Childhood Education, past president of Topeka Administrators Association, Elementary Principals Association, and Easter Star Chapter, Protection. On Feb. 6, 1930, she married Ralph C. Zane at Wichita. He died May 8, 1953. Survivors include: two sons, Ben Zane, Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Bob Zane, Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Kenneth Lawrence, Nevada, Mo.; a sister, Ethel Hughes, Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 am Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Chapel, Topeka. Additional services will be at 11 am Monday at Protection United Methodist Church, Protection. Burial will be in Protection Cemetery, Protection. Memorials may be sent to the Kansas Heart Association, Topeka, in care of Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, who is in charge of Protection arrangements. Hutchinson News November 5, 1993 page 2
