Her death was not unexpected, and her mother, Mrs. Geo. Vogel had been with her for several days and was at her bedside when the end came. Mrs. Vogel accompanied the remains to Hawarden Friday, Mr. Vogel going as far as Tama Thursday night to meet her. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in this city at ten o'clock Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Father Bradley, and interment was made in the Catholic cemtery here. Out of town friends who were here for the funeral were Mr. & Mrs. J. J. Sullivan of Council Bluffs and Miss Vera Tucker of Sioux Falls. Florinda Vogel was the youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Geo. Vogel of Hawarden. She was born at Eagle Grove, Iowa, Nov. 18, 1901, so had only attained the age of 19 years, 2 months and 2 days. With her parents, she came to Hawarden in 1909, and her home has since been here. She attended the Hawarden schools and was a member of the graduating class of 1920. Shortly before the close of school last spring it was discovered that she was afflicted with tuberculosis and on May 10th she went to the state hospital at Oakdale where for eight long months she waged a heroic fight against the dread scourge, but the disease was too deeply seated for her frail strength to withstand. From the time of her entry into the hospital her case was regarded by the specialists there as almost hopeless, but she was possessed with dauntless courage and will power and bravely kept up the battle until the last. During the month of November it became evident that her strength was failing and her decline from that time on was quite rapid and for the last three weeks preceding her death it was realized that no earthly power could ward off the hand of death. Florinda Vogel has been known to the writer since she came to Hawarden with her parents as a wee slip of a girl. We knew her as a vivacious care-free child and watched her develop into charming young womanhood. She was ever a favorite among her young friends and her unselfish devotion to her family and friends was ever an outstanding characteristic of her life. She was of a happy disposition and always radiated good cheer among those about her. She bore her affliction bravely and was less concerned about her own welfare than the comfort and peace of mind of her own family. Her loss will be felt keenly by many outside the famly circle. Besides her parents she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Francis M. Trainor and Mrs. Julius B. Schiefen, both of Hawarden to whom the sympathy of all goes out in the hour of their sorrow.
