(Peters) Honeycutt, was born January 8, 1912, on a farm near Blue Rapids, Kansas, and passed away Thursday, November 25, 1993, at Nelson Good Samaritan Center at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 14 days. (Peters) Honeycutt, was born January 8, 1912, on a farm near Blue Rapids, Kansas, and passed away Thursday, November 25, 1993, at Nelson Good Samaritan Center at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 14 days. At an early age, Floy moved with her family from Blue Rapids to a farm south of Nelson. She attended Highland Country School and graduated from Nelson High School with the Class of 1930. October 31, 1931, Floyd was united in marriage to Raymond Porter at her parents' homestead on her parents' 25th wedding anniversary. They began their married life on a farm west of Nelson where they lived until Raymond's death in 1971. Floy was employed in the kitchen and laundry departments at Nelson Good Samaritan Home. Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting, gardening and completing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spening time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was most happy when they would stop after church for coffee and rolls. She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center since July 1, 1992. She was a member of Highland Helping Hand Club and Rebekah Lodge #148. Floy was also a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ and had been a Sunday school teacher for many years. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, Raymond, were her parents, three sisters, Faye Schriever, Della Arcus and Ruth LeMay and two brothers, Roy and Don Honeycutt. Survivors include one son, Ronald, and his wife, Laveta of Nelson; five grandchildren, Peggy Cassell and her husband, Donald, Ronald Doug Porter and his wife, Connie, Randy Porter and his wife, Jacki, Richard Porter and his wife, DeeAnne, and Pamela Porter, all of Nelson; 12 great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Honeycutt, Marie Troudt, Nina Mae Bruce and Leona Porter; and one brother-in-law, Robert Arucs (sic). Funeral services were held Monday, November 29, 1993, at 10:30 a.m. at Nelson Community United Church of Christ with Rev. Royce Buchtel officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Ruth Watts, singing, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden", with Dot Ferebee as organist. Casketbearers were Donald Cassell, Randy Porter, Ronald Doug Porter, Richard Porter, Mike Honeycutt and Marvin Honeycutt. A tribute was given by Nelson Rebekah Lodge #148. Burial was in Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of the arrangements. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, December 2, 1993; pg. 7
