Description	:	FLOYD C SHORT JR. Funeral services for Floyd C. Short Jr., 86 of Lemmon, S.D. were held April 30, 2004 at the Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church of Lemmon. Ardeth Koccurek offciated. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery with full military honors by the American Legion Post #66 of Lemmon. A memorial has been established to the Shirners Crippled Children's Hospital and the Shrine Transportaion Fund. He was born on December 8, 1917 in a sod house 10 miles east of Bixby, S.D. the second child dof Floyd C. and Ella (Burdick) Short Sr. He attended Cottonwood School and Lemmon School graduating in 1936. He attended the University of S.D. and enlisted in the US Navy in 1942. He was assigned to the USS Essex serving in the Mediterranean and the Pacific engaging the Japanese. He was discharged on November 14, 1945, returned to Lemmon. Florence Dueschle of Bison were married April 29, 1946 in Baker, Montana. They started the Northwestern Cleaners and ran it until 1983. They adopted two daughters (sisters), Margaret Ann and Nancy Sue. Floyd drove a school bus to several years, Fran poassed away in 1983, Floyd began tireless efforts on his part to help anyone and everyone in the community.Floyd Short Jr Day was declared for September 29, 2001, he belong to numeous organizations to serve his fellow man. He made sure that the Crippled Children's Hospital and saw to it that the families could be as close as possible. He was constantly helping someone with something. Surviving are his daughters Margaret (David) Thorsness of Rapid City, Nancy and friend (Jerry Grant) of Lemmon; 2 granddaughters, Misty O'Neal and Venessa Gross and two great-grandchildren, Caidon and Autumn O'Neal; brother Harvey of Escondido, Ca and sister Evelyn Nehl of Keldron, as well as numerouse nieces, nephews, in-laws and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Don, sisters; Nellie Short and Gladys Winter.
