SHORT Funeral services will be held Thursday April 21 at 2:00 p.m. for Frances Lorraine Short who died Sunday, April 17, 1983 after a two month illness at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Rev. David and Rev. Elizabeth D Beck will officiate at the Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church. Special music will be provided by Mrs. Tim Brown and Mrs. Bill Larson, soloist and Mrs. Lowell Dayton, organist, Internment will be made in Greenhill Cemetery. Frances Lorraine Short was born August 19, 1920 at Bison, South Dakota to Lorence and Gladys (Mitchell) Deuschle. She attended school in Bison, graduating from Bison High School in 1939. She worked for a time in the County Courthouse and at a local restaurant before moving to San Diego, California, where she worked at Consolidate Aircraft during World War II. She returned to the Bison-Lemmon area and on April 29, 1946, was married to Floyd C. Short Jr at Baker, Montana. In November of that year they established Northwestern Cleaners in Lemmon, which she helped operate since. She was a member of the Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church, was chairman of Ada Circle at the church and taught Sunday school for 14 years as well as serving as an elder in the Church. Active in community affairs, she was clerk-housekeeper for the local Housing and Urban development apartments,Past President of the Woman's Club of Lemmon, the American Legion Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge and past guardian of Jobs Daughters and was currently the secretary-treasurer of the Masonic Temple Board and the South Side Cabin Owners Association. A memorial has been established. Surviving are her husband, Floyd of Lemmon; two daughters, Mrs. David (Margaret) Thorsness of Rapid City and Nancy Short of Lemmon. Two granddaughters; two brothers, Pete Deuschle of Bison and Harold Deuschle of Luverne, Minnesota; four sisters, Mrs. Les (Florence) Touchet of Lemmon, Mrs. Marvin (Laura) Phillips of Powder Springs, California, Mrs. Rita Baker of Hiko, Nevada and Mrs. Mike (Yvonne) Sullivan of Seattle, Washington, as well as three aunts, one uncle, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
