Read More	Iowa Recorder, The (Greene, Iowa) > 1936 > April > 29 Obituary of Floyd Delos Walsh The subject of a brief sketch, Floyd Delos Walsh was born on a farm near Bristow, September 23, 1907 and died at his home southeast of town on April 24, 1936, being 28 years, 7 months and 1 day of age. He was one of a family of four children, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Delos Walsh, and had spent his entire life in this community. On July 22, 1929 he was married to Fern Shaffer of this place. To this union was born one daughter, Jean, who was later adopted into the home of her aunt, Mrs. John Pohl. Floyd was married to Berneil Colby of Aredale, Iowa on April 18, 1931, and one son, Keith, was the fruit of this marriage. Floyd was industrious and kind hearted. He was raised on a farm and after entering upon manhood's estate, naturally followed the occupation of farming, where he provided his efficiency in his chosen calling. For a brief period Floyd was manager of a filling station in Clear Lake. He had spoken to his parents and others recently as being worried over his wife's health, as hospital physicians had advised him that a change of climate would be necessary for her recovery. He had suffered quite serious head injuries in a car accident from which those who knew him best felt he had never fully recovered and was despondent. Those left to mourn his early passing include his wife, Berneil, who was only released from the hospital on Saturday, where she had undergone a major operation on April 13, but was able to attend obsequies; two children Jean and Keith; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delos Walsh; two sisters, Mrs. Stephen Piper, Dumont and Mrs. John Pohl and a brother John both of this community, and many other relatives and friends. All these have the sympathy of their many friends in their deep sorrow. Funeral rites were Sunday April 26, from the United Brethren Church and were in charge of Rev. G.H. Varce, who spoke from the scripture text First Samuel 20.3. "There is but a step between me and death." The church building was packed with sympathizing with friends and neighbors as an express of sympathy for the sorrowing ones. A quartette, H.L. Searle, H.C. Newbury, Mrs. Maude Waite and Mrs. Mae Morford accompanied by Mrs. Carla Stewart, provided the music. Dorothy Waite and Lorraine Wessles arranged the floral offerings. The casket bearers were cousins of the deceased and were Jack Weiland, Allison, H.R. Duffield, Johnnie Weiland, Jim and Archie McNeilus and Hollis Overturf who bore the body to it's last resting place in Oak Hill, Bristow. John Dirks assisted in arranging transportation to the cemetery, whence a long cortege relatives and friend wended their way. Those from a distance who came for the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. S.R. Thomas, Mason City; Mrs. Lilly DeBower, Mr. and Mrs. John Weiland, Allison; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walsh and daughter, Clarksville; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Martin, Clarksville; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert McNeilus; Mr. and Mrs. Jim McNeilus, Mrs. Ethel McNeilus and children, Coster; Mr. and Mrs. Les Noelting, Dumont; Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Worth, Mrs. L. Douglas, Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. Al Bailey, Mrs. J. Mero, Aredale; Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Griner, Greene; Mr. and Mrs. Jake Mehmen, Parkersburg. In addition to those named relatives, friends came from the neighboring towns.
