Description	:	Floyd Gates, son of John and Ella (Leonard) Gates was born February 11, 1893, at Garden Grove, Ia. He was married to Miss Lucy Gates in 1917, and to this union 11 children were born: Lester, who died at the age of 14 years, Leonard, Don, Doyle, Edgar, Colus, Wayne, Cleo, Glendale, Marvin and Lois. As previously stated, the couple moved to Montana and spent the greater part of their married life there, coming to Centerville in the spring of 1934, and since that date made this city their home. Mr. Gates departed this... Read More	Floyd Gates, son of John and Ella (Leonard) Gates was born February 11, 1893, at Garden Grove, Ia. He was married to Miss Lucy Gates in 1917, and to this union 11 children were born: Lester, who died at the age of 14 years, Leonard, Don, Doyle, Edgar, Colus, Wayne, Cleo, Glendale, Marvin and Lois. As previously stated, the couple moved to Montana and spent the greater part of their married life there, coming to Centerville in the spring of 1934, and since that date made this city their home. Mr. Gates departed this life Thursday afternoon at his home on West State Street, November 14, 1940, being at the time of his death a little past 47 years old. Besides his ten children, he is survived by one brother, Clarence, of Cheyenne, Wyo.,three sisters, Mrs. Florence Smith of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Edna Smith of California and Miss Myrtle Gates of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Lester. His life was spent principally in farming, but in addition to farming he was also employed in mining coal. Double funeral services were held at the First Baptist church Saturday afternoon at 2 o' clock, November 16, conducted by the Rev. Luther M. Childs.
