Floyd Erman, son of John Henry and Martha Matilda (correction - Malinda, not Matilda) Fitz Hunter, was born June 2, 1883 in Churdan, the first child (correction - first boy child) to be born in that town. He died on January 15, 1964 at Fort Dodge, at the age of 80 years, seven months and 13 days. He was raised in the Churdan community where he attended both grade and high school, graduating in the class of 1901. After graduation he worked in stores and in the bank. On October 5, 1904 he was united in marriage to Alice R. Minor, at the bride's home near Adaza. The couple moved to the farm near Churdan in 1911 where Mr. Hunter's father had homesteaded. They lived there until 1933 and then farmed on several places in Greene County, retiring to Churdan in 1947, where Mr. Hunter has since made his home. They were the parents of nine children. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1954 at the Churdan Baptist Church. Mrs. Hunter preceded her husband in death on September 1, 1957. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Churdan for 67 years and served as deacon in that church for many years. He was also a member of Ariel Lodge No. 354 of the IOOF at Churdan, receiving his 50 year jewel from that lodge in 1956. Those preceding him in death, in addition to his wife, are his parents; one daughter, Amy Elizabeth, one son, Robert; and one sister, Mrs. Ethie Curtis. He is survived by his children: Mrs. Ralph (Helen) Paup, Mrs. Earl (Vera) Hoyle and Clare Hunter of Churdan. Mrs. Roger (Audrey) Dillavou of Nampa, Idaho; Mrs. Dwane (Ruth) Adamson of Perry; Carl Hunter of Iowa Falls; and Donald Hunter of Silver Spring, Md.; 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
