Floyd Galen Barth was born July 16, 1919, in Pleasant Township of Winneshiek County, rural Decorah, on the farm of his parents, Michael and Clara (Barth) Barth. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Locust and attended the rural ?Daubney School.? He worked on area farms as a young man, and on Dec. 11, 1940 married Marcella Spores in Waukon. In 1944 and 1945, Floyd served in the U.S. Army. Upon return from the service, he did trucking for a time before starting as a cattle buyer, both on his own and for Packerland Packing, Oscar Meyer, and Whitehall Packing companies. He also farmed in rural Winneshiek County, where he lived most of his life, and the New Albin area, where he lived since 1960. Floyd was formerly a member of the Moose Lodge. He loved his work with cattle. Floyd was a Chicago Cub fan, avid card player, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Oliver, Earl, Telford, and Orlando Barth; and seven sisters, Elsie Hanson, Vera Dinger, Violet Day, Doris Gulrud, Melba Fugman, Iowa Stearns, and Deloris Breeser. Survivors include his wife, Marcella, of New Albin; one son, Galen (Jean) Barth of Minong, WI; two daughters, Linda (Ray) Whittle of Cedar Rapids and Roxanne Barth of Madison, WI; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorena (Tilman) Ellingson of Decorah.
