Read More	Floyd Walter Maranello was born at the family home located in the country between Fairmont and Burress, and died at Fairview Manor, Fairmont, at the age of 98. Floyd grew up on a farm southeast of the Fairmont Cemetery and attended Fairmont High School. While growing up, he helped on the family farm. After he left high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1934 and spent four years (October 12, 1937-December 10, 1938) in Alaska, Hawaii and Panama as a boat coxswain with the title of Seaman First. He had been out of the Navy for over three years when World War II started, and he was drafted into the Army Air Corps for three years, (July 1, 1942-October 25, 1945) where he was stationed in India and served in the China Burma India Theater of World War II. In the Army he worked as a cook and had the title of "Buck" Sergeant. After his discharge from the Army in 1946, he settled near San Francisco, Calif., and used the G. I. Bill to enter carpentry school. during the next 27 years he lived in the San Francisco Bay area and worked as a carpenter, helping to build housing complexes and also building his own home as well. During this time he developed many wonderful hobbies including painting, woodworking and lapidary work, which he continued for the rest of his life. Floyd married Margorie Texier Hebert in 1944, and they were later divorced. He married Lillian "Penny" Poindexter in 1957, and they were divorced in 1962. Floyd moved back to Nebraska to retire in 1967. He built a home to live in on the northeast side of Exeter and later added an orchard and garden. this location became the place where he continued to perfect his many talents, especially his love of woodworking. He could recreate a cabinet or chair or clock, simply from studying a picture of the object. He loved to work with exotic woods, which he would order from all over the United States. He also developed new hobbies such as basket weaving and woodcarving. He was very social and loved to share his talents with others. He would gladly participate in a local craft show to demonstrate a hobby such as making bobbin lace. He competed in local and state horseshoe throwing contests and could beat almost anyone. He participated in a hand corn-picking contest at the age of 90 year York. In May 2008, Floyd decided to hold an auction at his home in Exeter to sell his hundreds of hand-made creations. The sale lasted from early morning until late afternoon, and people from near and far came to buy what they could from this creative man. Some of the items at the sale included spice cabinets, rockers, hand woven Nantucket baskets, mantel clocks, charcoal and oil paintings, many hand-carved canes, dressers, a Norwegian bent-rail box, a Chippendale desk, a loom, candle lamps, a seaman's chest, a child's rocker, children's cane-seated chairs, a pie cabinet, hand-carved planes, trunks spinning wheels, hand-turned gems and bobbin lace along with his many hand tools, big and small. Floyd moved to Fairview Country Reflections Assisted Living in Fairmont the day of his auction and lived there until this fall when his health started to fail. He continued to be a fiercely independent and determined man who made all decisions about his life until the very end. Preceding Floyd in death are his parents, Charles Edwin and Lula S. (Kness) Maranello; sister, Helen (Maranello) Budler Katazbeck, of Calistoga, Calif.; brother, Leslie Maranello of Marysville, Calif.; sister, Dorthy (Maranello) Frazier of Fairmont and brother-in-law, Earl Frazier of Fairmont. Floyd will be missed by sister-in-law, Eleanor "Anne" (Covert) Maranello, of Marysville, Calif.; nephew, Earl Richard "Dick" Frazier, and wife, Susan, of Fairmont; nephew, Jerry Frazier and his wife, Shirley, of Waverly; niece, DeAnne (Frazier) Martin Baer and her husband, Larry, of Tacoma, Wash., and niece, Paula Maranello, of Sacramento, Calif.; and great-nephews, and nieces, Scott Frazier, Shawn Frazier, Sheri (Frazier) Kesner, Lori Frazier, Michael Martin, Christina (Martin) Ballonoff, Brian Bowles and Kevin Maranello. Floyd was the oldest surviving veteran in Fillmore County before his death. He is buried in the Kness family plot at the Fairmont Community Cemetery. Born to Charles and Lula (Kness) Maranello. Served in the U.S. Navy and Army Corps. He was also a carpenter. Survivors include nephews: Earl Richard (Dick) Frazier of Fairmont, Jerry Frazier of Waverly, NE; nieces DeAnne (Frazier) Martin Baer of Tacoma, WA; Paula Maranello of Sacramento, CA, and many great nieces and nephews.
