Description	:	Young Man Drowned Franklin Forrest Gillaspey, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Gillaspey, was drowned Saturday, June 5, in Carter Lake. The lad had swam across the lake and he thought he could swim back, but cramps struck him when he had gone just a little ways. Every time he came up he screamed for help, but the life saver did not hear him until the last time, but it was too late then for him to be saved. Read More	Young Man Drowned Franklin Forrest Gillaspey, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Gillaspey, was drowned Saturday, June 5, in Carter Lake. The lad had swam across the lake and he thought he could swim back, but cramps struck him when he had gone just a little ways. Every time he came up he screamed for help, but the life saver did not hear him until the last time, but it was too late then for him to be saved. The life saver got hold of him but the lad fought so hard that he had to let go of the lad. He was drowned a little after 2 and the body was not recovered until about 4:30. Franlkin Forrest Gillaspey was born about 6 miles from Waterloo August 25, 1896 to Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Gillaspey. He leaves to mourn his loss his parents and two sisters. His death came as a great shock to all his relatives. The lad had no enemies. He worked as elevator boy in the Fontenelle Hotel in Omaha. He had a half day vacation so he thought he would spend it at Carter Lake in Omaha, where his unlucky fate came to him. The funeral services were held at the Waterloo cemetery. His many friends and relatives followed him to his last resting place. He was a kind and loving son and brother and his place can never be filled. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our home Which never can be filled.
