Funeral services will be held 10:30 Wednesday morning, January 28, 2009 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church rural Monticello with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. Rev. Surviving are 2 children, Jean (David) Workman, Deltona, Florida, Kenny (Brenda) Bohlken, Monticello, 2 grandchildren, Alan (Jennifer) Workman and Julia Workman,4 step-Grandchildren, Chad Merkes, Troy (Amanda) Merkes, Jesse (Kelly) Merkes, Travis (Cori) Merkes and 9 step-great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Georgia, and a son Kermit, her sister, Jean Bohlken and her beloved husband, George on September 4, 2003. Franc Joyce Royden was born January 16, 1919 at the John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frank A. and Eva Keith, Royden. She attended the Monticello Community Schools where she was the Valedictorian of the Class of 1936. Jo went on to attend the Univeristy of Iowa and Iowa State University where she studied landscape architecture, which she used while working at the Scotch Grove Nursery. Jo Royden and George Bohlken were married January 22, 1942 at her home in Scotch Grove. Jo gave piano lessons in her home for many years. She was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Scotch Grove Community Club. Her entire life she was a passionate fan of the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, and UNI Panthers. Jo was a wonderful mother, wife, and friend. Jo's family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke's Hospital and St. Luke's Hospice and especially nursing assistant, Kandace Reinhardt for all the loving care given to their mother.
