Funeral Services will be held 10:30 Monday morning, September 8, 2003 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. Rev. Surviving is his wife, Jo, a daughter, Jean (David) Workman, Maitland, Florida and a son, Kenny (Brenda) Bohlken of Monticello, two Grandchildren, Julie Workman, Modesto, California, and Alan (Jennifer) Workman, Palmetto, Florida, He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Georgia and a son Kermit, a brother, John and 3 sisters, Mary Saathoff, Katherine Bohlken, and Irma Skelley. A memorial fund has been established. George H. Bohlken was born June 12, 1911 at Scotch Grove, Iowa. He was the son of Tobias R. and Meta Burrack, Bohlken. George received his early education in the Scotch Grove Schools and graduated with the class of 1929 from the Monticello Community Schools. He was then employed at Balster Implement in Scotch Grove. During the war years George was employed at the Curtis Wright Airplane Factory in St. Louis, Missouri. George H. Bohlken and Franc Jo Royden were married January 20, 1942 at her parents home in Scotch Grove. George served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. He was an airplane mechanic in Italy and later in Trinidad. Following his return from service he sold Harley Davidson Motorcycles and Ford Automobiles out of Plueger's Garage in Scotch Grove. George established Bohlken Motors when he built his building in 1950. He continued selling Ford Cars and was also a Phillips 66 retailer. He retired from active participation in the business in 1993 when he sold it to his son Kenny. George was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He loved to fish and was an avid NASCAR fan following Bill Elliott.
