The Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements. Frances Arlene Stoltenburg (Nicola) was born January 14, 1937 to Arthur and Nettie (Haiker) Nicola in Harris, Iowa. At the age of 5 the family moved to a farm northwest of Clear Lake, South Dakota. She attended Clear Lake High School and graduated in 1955. It was also in 1955 that she met the love of her life, Ardell Stoltenburg of Altamont, SD. They were united in marriage on December 27,1955. From this union five children were born. Fran worked alongside Ardell as they raised their children on her parents’ farm. In 1969 they moved into Clear Lake. Fran opened Fran’s Fashions and ran the business for 12 years. After that she worked various jobs throughout the community. She truly loved working with the public. She especially enjoyed her time at the hardware store, where she worked with all the local patrons. She found her job with Home Health very rewarding as she was able to care for and assist so many people in need. Fran so enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events over the years and spending as much time as she could with them all as they grew up. Over the past ten years she was blessed with 9 great grandchildren and loved showing off their pictures to everyone. Every grandchild whether near or far felt so connected and loved by her. She has always had a strong faith in God and shared this faith with her family and friends. She was such a caring person to all of her nieces and nephews. Some referred to her as their second Mom. No matter who she was visiting with she would listen intently with compassion, patience and kindness. She always made an effort to spend time with family and friends in the community and loved their visits together. So many people have said how open and easy she was to talk to. She could find the good in everyone and was quick with a hug. She had a great sense of humor and could bring a smile to anyone. Frances is lovingly remembered by her five children, Audie Stoltenburg, Brandon, Shari (Todd) Sumner, Brookings, Shane (Barb) Stoltenburg, Brandon, Judd (Jane) Stoltenburg, Lincoln, NE and Brenda (Kendall) Schake, Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren, Melissa (Andrew) Munson, Matthew (Amber) Sumner, Ashley (finance’ Jared) Sumner, Thomas (finance’ Taylor) Stoltenburg, Samuel Stoltenburg, Nathan (Caitlin) Stoltenburg, Jessica (Ryan) Starmer, Travis Stoltenburg, Chelsey Schake and Gage Schake; 9 great grandchildren, Ried Munson, Madyson Oines, Piper Sumner, Greyson, Camden and Murphie Stoltenburg, and Afton, Emma and Hadley Starmer; three sisters-in-law, Fayme Stoltenburg, Clear Lake, Nadine Goens, Bemis and Luella Stoltenburg, Jamestown, ND, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Dennis and Mavis Stoltenburg, Clear Lake, special niece DeeDee Eide, many other nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ardell, brother, Gene Nicola: sisters Fern Asmussen, and Evelyn (Merle) Anderson; Esther Nicola; brothers-in-law Darwin Stoltenburg; Delbert Stoltenburg; Harley Stoltenburg and Marvin Goens. - Houseman Funeral Home
