Eugene Alexander, in charge. Miss Donna Textor sang "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer " and "No Disappointment in Heaven." Miss Loraine Steele played the piano accompaniment. Casketbearers were Dillon Johnston, Henry Dauer, Orton Kretzinger, Wm. Kupka, John Miller and Alfred Parker. Interment in the Coon Rapids Cemetery The following obituary was read by the Rev Alexander. Frances Bertha, daughter of Aaron and Bertha Smouse, was born July 17, 1908, at Coon Rapids, Iowa, and passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Carl Hestbeck in Des Moines, on February 19, 1944, at the age of 35 years, 7 months and 2 days. While Frances hasn't enjoyed good health for a number of years her condition became much worse at Thanksgiving time following an attack of the flu. She was forced to give up her schooling when in the 11th grade and while at home spent a great deal of her time enjoying music and good reading. Since the death of her mother she had made her home with her sisters. Frances had a wonderful personality, was very fond of children and they were devoted to her. Her concern was ever for others and being much loved and honored by all who knew her she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her father on Jan. 4, 1927 and her mother on Oct. 21, 1939. The following brothers and sisters mourn their sisters passing: Mrs. Carl Hestbeck and Frank Smouse of Des Moines, Mrs. Ed Grettenberg of Dawson, Harlan Smouse of Carroll, Howard Smouse, who is in the armed services at Camp Livingston, La.; Mrs. Clark Stangl and Mrs. Albert Patrick of Coon Rapids. There are also eighteen nieces and nephews. While a young girl Frances became a member of the First Methodist church in Coon Rapids.
