Read More	OBITUARY OF AUNT FANNIE HARRIS, FREMONT PIONEER Fannie Brown Harris, daughter of John Brown and Mary Liddle, was born May 12, 1832 in the city of Philadelphia, and passed away April 27, 1926, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. Aunt Fannie Harris, Fremont Pioneer, departed this life at Council Bluffs after reaching the ripe age of 94 years. Having been left an orphan at the age of 9, she made her home with her uncle, James Coons, in Canada, until the time of her marriage to Abel Wilson Harris, December 15, 1851, at Findley, Ohio. To this union were born five sons: Theodore C., Andrew J., Edgar J., Charles H., and Alonzo. In 1857 the family moved to Wisconsin and in 1859 they joined a party of pioneers composed of friends and relatives from Ohio and located near Sidney, Iowa. Of this early immigration to Fremont County, Mrs. Harris was the last survivor. Her husband, Abel Wilson Harris, passed away 3 January 1870. Her home from that time was with her eldest son, Dr. T. C. Harris of Tabor, Iowa, until his departure from this life in 1924, since then she has lived with her son, Charles H. Harris of Bartlett. E. A. Shirley in an article in the "Iowan Magazine" on pioneer life says: "Aunt Fannie, as she was known to her friends, is simply one of the many pioneer women who gathered her little flock about her day after day and trained them for citizenship and the larger life beyond. The story of those pioneer wives and mothers is good enough to be written in the Chronicles of Heaven. When, at last, we come to calculate the force that decided the destiny of nations, it will be found that the mightiest and grandest influence came from the pioneer cabins where the wife and mother, miles from civilization, cheered up the home, starting the little feet of her own flesh and blood on the road that leads to that celestial city, and all without the assistance of any outside influence, because at first there was not a church or a Sunday school in the state, it was a wonderful Christian influlence those mothers had over their families. Never shall we be able sufficiently to praise and honor those pioneer men and women who blazed the way for western civiliazation. And the pioneer mother will, when all is summed up at the last, be found well at the head of the list of those who have advanced the interest of mankind." Mrs. Harris leaves to mourn her departure one son, Charles H. Harris of Bartlett, a number of grandchildren, besides a wide circle of friends. Dr. Leroy Titus Weeks, dean of Tabor College, read the Episcopal service. Those from other towns who attended were: Mrs. Will Andrews and Mr. Reed Flickinger from Council Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Gates, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Linder, Mrs. M. Hennegan, Mrs. Elizabeth Gates, Mrs. A. Thornton, Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Leeka, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ryckman, Mrs. Livingston Suits, Mrs. Roy Laird, Mrs. Bernice Torrence, and Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Omer from Tabor, Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Shirley from Sidney, Con Ryan and Frank Bradley from Shenandoah, Mrs. A.C. Scott of Omaha. Interment was made in the Thurman Cemetery.
