Census 1850 Census Marion, Putnam County, Indiana 1860 Census Grove, Davis County, Iowa 1870 Census Grove, Davis County, Iowa 1880 Census Grove, Davis County, Iowa LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT I Francis Jarvis of Grove Township, Davis County and state of Iowa being aware of the uncertainly of life and in failing health but of sound mind and memory do make this to be my last will and testament. In manner allowing to wit: After paying my funeral expenses and expenses of my last sickness, my just debts, I give and devise to my beloved daughter Minerva Dodge one full share of my estate. To my son Peter Jarvis $5.00 as hereafter provided of my estate. And to my son William Jarvis one full share of my estate when he has fully paid all notes and accounts due from him to me. I give to James Denny and Liny Hendren, heirs of Susan Denny deceased, one share to be equally divided between them. To the heirs of my daughter Willie Israel one full share of my estate to be divided equally among them. To my grandsons G.W. Jarvis and James Jarvis sons of my son George Jarvis deceased, one full share to be divided equally between them. To Peter P. Jarvis and Mary V. Jarvis, heirs of James Jarvis deceased, one full share to be divided equally between them. To my two grandsons William Frank Jarvis and John Henry Jarvis sons of my son Peter Jarvis one share less $5.00 to be paid to Peter Jarvis above mentioned out of last mentioned share. In explanation by the heirs of Willie Israel is meant the heirs of her body, her children. By the word share as used above meant one-eighth of the whole estate both real and personal after all debts and costs is paid. That means the number of the original heirs. In testimony whereof, I have here unto subscribed my name this 31st day of March 1888. Frances Jarvis In the court of Davis County, Iowa October term AD 1888 in probate Francis Jarvis deceased. Be it remembered on this to will the 16th Day of Oct. AD 1888 comes on for hearing the matter of the proof of the last will and testament of Francis Jarvis deceased. In the court finding that the legal heirs (legatees) having been duly and legally notified of the time and place of hearing of the same and the same being submitted to the court upon the evidence of the subscribing witnesses: S. McCullough and J.W. Brown examined and fully understood by the court. It has found that at the time of making the will the testator was of sound mind and memory and full age and that the same was signed by the testator in the presence of the subscribing witnesses and published and declared by him to be her last will and testament and that they signed the same as subscribing witnesses in his presence and in the presence of each other at his request; and that afterward to wit on the 14th day of June AD 1888 the testator died in Davis County, Iowa. It is therefore ordered by the court that the same be and is hereby allowed and admitted to probate as the last will and Testament of Francis Jarvis deceased and that the same have full force and effect as such and that it be recorded as such in the proper records. It is further ordered by the court that hereby appointed executor of said will and upon filing bind herein in the penal sum. Her Probate dated March 19, 1889 in Davis County, Iowa.
