Description	:	Frances Katherine (Katie) Beason was the second child of Joseph and Samantha Singletary (Morris) Beason, was born in the old Dr. Cox farm house near Osceola, St. Clair County, Missouri. Kate (Beason) Ghumm's father Joseph Beason bought the Cox's farm in 1850 consisting of 1280 acres. During the Civil War General Thomas E. Ewing issued his infamous Order No. 11 on August 25, 1863. After the war Joseph Beason did not try to get the land back, but Dr. Cox the former owner did get the land back. There is a small cemetery not far from the house where Josephs father Nathan Beason and his daughter Margaret (Beason) Raines are buried. During the Civil War the family moved to Longwood, Pettis County, Missouri. Where she married John Ghumm on October 23, 1872. To this union ten children were born Joseph, Josephine, Jesse, Clarence, Ernest, Gertrude, Ruby, Olen, Herman and Olga. They made their home in Thurman, Fremont County, Iowa. They later purchased a home in Juliam, Nehama County, Nebraska where they lived throughout the reminder of their lives. Katie died from tuberculosis.
