Read More	From Nevada Evening Journal September 18, 1944 (page 3) Funeral Services For Mrs. Hoskins Held on Sunday Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Hoskins, 82, who passed away Friday, were held from the Mt. Zion church south of Maxwell, Sunday afternoon conducted by the Rev. O. E. Cooley of the Nevada Methodist church. Music was furnished by the Misses Doris Cook and Vivian Hankins of Nevada with Mrs. C. L. Gifford at the piano. Burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery by the side of the husband who passed away a number of years ago. The pall bearers were Frank McKim, W. F. Stratton and Howard Mills of Nevada, George Granger and Mr. Smith of Colo an Ed Wickard of Maxwell. The following life history was read during the funeral service. "Frances Loraine Ferguson, daughter of John P. and Sarah Ferguson, was born at Brockway Center, near Detroit, Mich., June 25, 1862, died at the Story county home, September 15, 1944, having reached the age of 82 years, 2 months and 21 days. At the age of 5 years she came with her family to Illinois and a few years later on to Iowa in a covered wagon, where they located south of Maxwell near the Mt. Zion church. She grew to womanhood in the community and when a very young girl joined the Evangelical church at Mt. Zion of which her father was an early time minister. On July 3, 1888, he was united in marriage to Henry Allen Hoskins. While there were no children born to this union, they raised five nieces, giving them all the love and care of real parents. With the exception of a few years spent in South Dakota her entire life was spent in Story county. She was an industrious woman having worked by her husband's side when they were engaged in business and had kept her own apartment until May of this year when her failing health made it necessary for her to have care. She stayed for a short time in a private nursing home in Marshalltown but came to the county home the last of May so she could be near her relatives and her doctor. To he wide circle of friends, young and old, she was affectionately known as "Auntie." She leaves to mourn her passing four of her five nieces who were as daughters to her: Mrs. Mary Lawrence of Grafton, North Dak.; Mrs. Pearl Tibbs of Fort Pierre, South Dak.; and Mrs. Hazel Christy and Mrs. Arletta Martin who were with her at the time of her death, three sisters, Mrs. Arletta Goetz, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Hettie Bakel, Pierre, South Dak.; Mrs. Evelyn Ferritto of Ontario, Calif.; three brothers, John of Aurora, Ill.; Charles of Grove City, Minn.; and Mert of California, besides a large number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one of the nieces she raised--Erma Ferguson an by her husband who died in February 1932. Auntie Hoskins was loved by all who knew her. Her home was always open to those who needed food, shelter or care. She was very religious, attending and working in the churches in the communities where she lived, as long as she was able physically.
