Frances was born December 18, 1918 at rural Emerson, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Mary (Harrigfeld) Giese. Frances and Erwin H. Surber were united in marriage on December 17, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska. They live in Emerson prior to moving to Sioux City, Iowa in 1945, then they moved to South Sioux City in 1948. Erwin passed away in 1965. Frances was employed at T.S. Martin and later at IBP. Frances was a member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. Her greatest joy was spending time with family. She turned the simplest things into the nicest memories. We cannot see her, but she is with us still. A mother and grandmother like ours is more than a memory. She is, and always will be, a living presence. Left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Jeannine Zeitner and her husband George of Sioux City, Iowa, Jackie Gierman and her husband Ottie, and Beth Koster and her husband Leroy of South Sioux City, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Billi Jo Paxson and her husband Ken of Port Isabel, Texas, Brad Zeitner and his wift Beth of Columbus, Ohio, Bobbi Austin and her husband Daryl of Sioux City, Iowa, Mari Beth Jackson and her husband Jay of Sioux City, Iowa, Darren Koster and his wife Dori of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Derek Holgate and his wife Staci of Ponca, Nebraska, Kyle Koster of South Sioux City, Nebraska; 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Erwin; a brother, William Giese Jr.; a sister Faye Cameron; and a grandson, Brandon Zeitner. At the family's request, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
