Frances was born April 13, 1943, at Superior to Marvin and Lucille (Kempkes) Thurber. Frances was born April 13, 1943, at Superior to Marvin and Lucille (Kempkes) Thurber. Survivors are: sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Hutchins of Temecula, Calif., and Mark and Valerie Hutchins of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cheryl and Larry Feala of North Bend and Janet and Jerry Warneke of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Linda Thurber of Jackson, Wyo.; grandchildren, Jeremy Hutchins, Sara Hutchins, Jake Hutchins and Kelly Hutchins; one stepchild, Christopher Trejio and a host of friends and relatives. Frances is preceded in death by: parents and sister, Georgia Kempkes. Frances was raised in the Nelson area and began her education at the Redline and Highland schools near Nelson. She attended Nelson High School, graduating in May 1961. Following graduation, Frances entered the U.S. Navy and served in Corpus Christi, Texas. On Oct. 20, 1961, Frances married Thomas Hutchins. To the union two sons were born, Michael Thomas Hutchins and Mark Anthony Hutchins. On July 16, 1977, Frances married Jerry Butler in Las Vegas. Frances lived much of her life in California, working for National Semiconductor Corporation and Mini Magnetic Company, Inc. She moved from California to Las Vegas, Nelson and North Bend. In December 2009, she made her home at the Grand Island Veterans Home. As an active member of the GIVH, she served on the Member Council and Food Committee. Frances enjoyed gardening and flowers, sewing, quilting, embroidery, wood working and ceramics. She made porcelain dolls and enjoyed playing cards with friends. Inurnment was in the Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, Nebraska. Published in The Grand Island Independent on February 15, 2012
