Description	:	Marvin Richard Thurber, son of Oscar and Carrie A. (Farver) Thurber, was born March 4, 1921, on a farm near Nora, Nebraska. He passed away Tuesday, December 28, 1999, at Bryan LGH East Campus in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 24 days. He was raised on the family farm. (Farver) Thurber, was born March 4, 1921, on a farm near Nora, Nebraska. He passed away Tuesday, December 28, 1999, at Bryan LGH East Campus in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 24 days. He was raised on the family farm. Marvin graduated from Nelson High School in 1939. June 7, 1942, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior, Nebraska, Marvin was united in marriage to Lucille Kempkes. Just three weeks after their marriage he was called to serve his country during World War II. He served in the Army from June 29, 1942, as an Instructor in rifles, machine guns, Browning automatic rifles and other small arms, and gave basic small arms training to recruits. He also served as Field First Sergeant and in that capacity supervised 200 trainees, assisted in planning the training programs and made reports on the men. Marvin was honorably discharged on December 25, 1945. He then worked as a farmer and lineman for South Central Public Power District. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and American Legion in Nelson. Marvin and Lucille enjoyed bird watching. He would situate the kitchen table so they could eat and keep and (sic) eye on the birds. Marvin spent many hours building a doll house for his daughter, Cheryl. Woodworking was a great joy to him, as was nature itself. Marvin loved the land and the outdoors. Preceding him in death were his parents; and nine brothers, Archie, Edgar, Vernon, Virgel, Floyd, Willis, and three infants. Survivors include his wife, Lucille of the Nelson Good Samaritan Center; four daughters, Frances Butler of Nelson, Nebraska, Cheryl Feala and her husband Larry of North Bend, Nebraska, Janet Warneke and her husband Jerome of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Georgia Kempkes and her husband Harry of Adams, Nebraska; one son, Marvin Jr. and his wife Linda of Jackson, Wyoming; two sisters, Irene Nelson of Superior, Nebraska, and Marlys Ilene Millard of Pocatello, Idaho; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 1, 2000, at 1:30 p.m., at the Klawitter-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Nelson, Nebraska, with Father David Drewelow officiating. Music was provided by soloist Ruth Watts, singing "On Eagles Wings", "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art", with Virginia Drohman as organist and accompanist. Interment was in Nelson Cemetery with full military rites by Nelson American Legion. Taps were played by Seth Feala and Carl Grueber. Pallbearers were Jerry Warneke, Jason Feala, Larry Feala, Seth Feala, Harry Kempkes and Jim Menke. Honorary pallbearers were Kenna Feala, Amber Kempkes, Michaela Feala, Aaron Kempkes, Mike Hutchins, Mark Hutchins, Dale Uhrmacher and Earl Lewis.
