The services were conducted by Rev. T.B. Haynie. The body bearers were: G.W. Seaman, J.M. Sewell, Blair Syster, A.F. Bechtel, Wm. Knabb, and Levi Kurtz. Burial was made in the Hiawatha cemetery. T.B. Haynie. The body bearers were: G.W. Seaman, J.M. Sewell, Blair Syster, A.F. Bechtel, Wm. Knabb, and Levi Kurtz. Burial was made in the Hiawatha cemetery. A most unusual and sad coincidence occurred. The daughter, Mrs. L.[Leighton S.] Brown of Yampa, Colorado, did not arrive until on the afternoon train Tuesday, when she was met at the station and met the funeral procession on the way to the cemetery. She did not know that her mother was dead as she had left Colorado before the word reached her. Frances M. Middleton was born in Ross county, Ohio, June 10, 1840, and died at her home two miles south of Hiawatha, December 19, 1913. She was married to W.S. Brown, June 27, 1865, and lived in Missouri two years after which they moved to their present home Feb. 27, 1868. To this union were born five children. One son, Todd, and four daughters; Mrs. Villa Potter, of this place; Mrs. L.[S.] Brown, of Yampa, Colorado, and Mrs. Hugh Donley, and an infant daughter, both of whom have passed to the Great Beyond. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, son, two daughters and a sister, Mrs. Margaret S. Hayes, of Washington, Kansas. Mrs. Brown had been in failing health for a number of years but was critically ill for the past few weeks. She had been a member of the First Presbyterian church of Hiawatha since 1873. Prior to that time was a member of the Methodist church in the east. She was a good wife and faithful mother and will be greatly missed in the home.
