Frances W. Mosher, 86, Route 1, Salem, died Saturday, Feb 13, 1988, at 6:50 p.m. at the Henry Co. Health Center. She was born Dec 26, 1901, southeast of Salem, the daughter of James and Lillie Masden Mosher. Miss Mosher was a member of the Salem Congregational Church and the Salem Women's Club. Surviving are one brother J. LaMoyne Mosher, Salem, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Watts, Salem. Her parents, one brother, Kenneth, and one sister, Evelyn, preceded her in death. Averil lived with her grandmother, grandfather, Auntie, Monie and her sister Joan after her mother died October 31, 1942. Frances Mosher "Auntie" lived in the house on Lone Road Farm that had been homesteaded by her family in 1839, from the time that she was 6 years old. She became quite interested in family history and helped 2 cousins in compiling extensive genealogies. See the Mosher history at the beginning of this book. She will often be remembered by her nieces and nephews with needle and thread in her hands and pins in her mouth mending overalls, making doll clothes, piecing quilts for missions, creating something useful from odds and ends. She was dubbed a "thinker-upper" by her youngest sister when she was in high school and it was true all her life. Auntie was very interested in all kinds of wildlife and watching the 12 different kinds of birds she had seen from the windows this winter. She was a very saving person and canned hundreds of beautiful jars of pickles, tomatoes, peaches, green beans, corn, and anything else that her brother LaMoyne "Moiney" grew in the garden. She was always the one to make the suet pudding for Christmas dinner and hickory nut cake to celebrate family birthdays. She enjoyed reciting poems from memory and she was the family's walking encyclopedia remembering dates and places for all of us. There is a little saying by Oliver Wendell Holmes that goes, "'Take your needle....and work at your pattern; it will come out a rose by and by.' Life is like that; one stitch at a time taken patiently, and the pattern will come out all right like the embroidery." Three evenings before she died, in talking to Auntie on the telephone, she told me not to worry--that she felt things were going to turn out all right--and they surely did. She will be remembered most by all of us always, for her quiet thoughtful loving ways. It is only natural when we think of Auntie to think of "Moiney". No sister could ask for a more caring supporting brother. She probably would find it hard to find the words to thank him for all he has done for her but we all know her heart was full of gratitude.
