Description	:	Francis Bermingham Nov 19,1925-Feb 6,2007 Francis Bermingham, 81, of Gordon, died February 6, 2007 at Gordon Memorial Hospital.He was born November 19, 1925, at the family home 4 miles south of Gordon to Thomas and Delia Bermingham. He attended school at District 13, south of Gordon then on to Gordon High School where he was a member of the football team.On January 24th, 1944, he married Doris Evelyn Keller in Rushville, NE. They lived in or around Gordon, NE for their entire 63 years of marriage, working on area ranches until finally moving into town after Francis developed an allergy to cattle.... He attended school at District 13, south of Gordon then on to Gordon High School where he was a member of the football team.On January 24th, 1944, he married Doris Evelyn Keller in Rushville, NE. They lived in or around Gordon, NE for their entire 63 years of marriage, working on area ranches until finally moving into town after Francis developed an allergy to cattle. He went to work for Carl Jensen, who owned the Conoco Station on the corner of Main and 4th Street. After that he started working for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. He became foreman of the Gordon shop shortly after he began working there. The interesting bit of history about this job is that the state shop at the time was a drafty old wooden building with a dirt floor. It sat just east of the old Ross Transfer terminal. He helped in designing and moving to the new facility that is in use today, just south on Highway 27. This became his life work for the next 27 years 9 months when he retired.He was an active member of the Gordon Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years. He reluctantly retired from that organization with honor and certificate after serving with many fine firemen.On November 16, 1945, he entered the U.S. Army. He received his training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in field artillery. At some point after his training he was transferred into the U.S. Army Air Corps in Hawaii which explains the story he always related about sitting on top of this big cliff manning a radar site. Francis returned to the States on July 19, 1946 and received his honorable discharge at Camp Beale, California on July 24th, 1946.Francis was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry, his parents, one brother and three sisters.Services were held February 10th at the Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home. Burial was in the Gordon Cemetery.
