Description	:	Taken from the Turton Centennial Book Frank C. Campbell, son of James and Rose (Underwood) Campbell, was born Nov. 8, 1884 at Melvin, Ill. He came to South Dakota with his parents in the early 1900's and farmed southwest of Turton. Frank Married Blanche DesLaurier in Feb. 1915. Campbell, son of James and Rose (Underwood) Campbell, was born Nov. 8, 1884 at Melvin, Ill. He came to South Dakota with his parents in the early 1900's and farmed southwest of Turton. Frank Married Blanche DesLaurier in Feb. 1915. They had six children: Leslie, Virgil, Lurene, Mary, Helen and Florence. They farmed southwest of Turton. Then in 1931 Frank moved his family to a farm southwest of Raymond and his Dad, James and his brother, Bill, made their home with Frank and his family. During the drought and dirty thirties life was a struggle for them. His father, James, passed away in Feb. 1935. Frank then moved his family a mile west to a smaller farm. Tragedy then struck this family when a fire destroyed the home on Aug. 3, 1937. Frank lost his wife and three daughters in the fire. The family was split in half. Blanche, Lurene, Mary and Florence were all buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Turton. Frank was determined to keep his remaining family together. He rented a farm four miles west of Doland. With hard work and determination, Les, Virgil and Helen and his brother, Bill, continued to live and farm in the Doland area. The children married and moved away to make homes of their own leaving Frank and Bill alone. Frank then bought a trailer home and moved to Doland. Helen and her husband Clayton Welke rented a quarter of land south of Tulare, SD. Frank moved his trailer to the Welke's farm and continued to farm a few more years. Frank had a stroke and finally had to live at James Valley Home for five years, until his death, May 30, 1963. He was buried in the family lot in the Turton Catholic Cemetery. Bill also in later years was at the James Valley Home, until his death.
