Leslie was born Jan. 12, 1916, near Turton, S.D., to Frank and Blanche (DesLauriers) Campbell. He attended school in Turton before farming in the Turton and Doland areas. Les married Hazel Benz in Miller, S.D., on Oct. 14, 1944. He worked at Terry's Gas Station in Miller and Blackburn-Gamble farm north of Miller. Les and Hazel and their family moved to Redfield in 1955 where Les worked in the maintenance department for Community Memorial Hospital for twenty-seven years. He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Les enjoyed yard work, gardening, baseball and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Les is survived by his children: Sharon (David) Alden of Huron, S.D.; Karen (Larry) Evans of Frankfort, S.D.; and Galen (Betty) Campbell of Redfield, S.D.; step-daughter Carolyn (Robert) Hergert of Kelsey Ville, Calif.; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons. He is also survived by his sister Helen (Clayton) Welke of Redfield, two sisters-in-law: Irene Johnson of Miller and Joan Campbell of Frankfort. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel in 2002, one brother Virgil, three sisters (in a house fire near Doland) and an infant grandson. Casketbearers will be Les' grandchildren and their spouses: Brian (Chris) Evans, Shawn (Toni) Evans, Lori (Roger) St. Aubin, Jamie (T.J.) Campbell and Michele (Terry) Fry.
