Frank Biglow received a serious wound from the accidental discharge of a gun at his home near Carroll's Bridge, northwest of this city last Friday morning about 11 o'clock. A. J. Frank Biglow received a serious wound from the accidental discharge of a gun at his home near Carroll's Bridge, northwest of this city last Friday morning about 11 o'clock. A. J. Oliver, of this place, was at Mr. Biglow's and borrowed the latter's dog to go hunting. Mr. Oliver was in his buggy and as the dog did not seem inclined to follow, Mr. Biglow told Mr. Oliver to show the dog the gun and he would go. Mr. Oliver attempted to raise the gun from his lap when, it is supposed the hammer caught in the lap robe and caused the gun to go off. Mr. Biglow who was standing at the side of the buggy, he received the entire load in one leg above the knee. The bone was badly shattered and the leg almost torn off. Drs. Carson and Davis, of Shelbyville, and Roy, of Hagers Grove, were summoned and did all that was possible to alleviate the suffering. On Saturday Dr. Smith of this place was called in consultation. He informed us that the shock was very profound and lasted through Sunday. On Monday Mr. Biglow was feeling cheerful and resting quite comfortable. At this writing the doctors are not positive as to whether amputation of the limb will be necessary. Shelbina Democrat (Shelbina, MO), 1900-10-17; Page 1, Column 1 —The condition of Frank Bigelow, who was accidentally shot, as states in last week's DEMOCRAT, was such that amputation of the wounded leg became necessary. The operation was performed yesterday by Doctors Carson, Roy, Devin, Saunders, Smith and Pollard.
