Funeral services will be 10:30am on Friday, January 6, 2012 at First Lutheran Church, in Brookings. Gordon Knutson was born on February 25, 1917, in Lincoln County, South Dakota, the son of Sam and Alice (Hill) Knutson. Gordon spent his early years and received his education in rural school in Lincoln County, S.D., and was a graduate of the Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1936. In 1940, he moved to Brookings County, where he farmed southwest of Brookings. In 1948, he married Grace Sutton; Grace died in 1975. Gordon continued to farm until 1976, when he moved into Brookings. He was united in marriage to Irene Christianson on June 20, 1976, in Brookings; Irene died in 2005. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, and the Farmers Union. He especially enjoyed reading and doing volunteer work and loved his time visiting with family and friends. Gordon is survived by one son, Duane Knutson, of Brookings, South Dakota; two daughters, Deanna Boone and her husband Loren, of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Doreen Hemish and her husband, Richard of Canby, Minnesota; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Percy and Erma Sutton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Grace and Irene, and three sisters, Mildred, Lucille and Kathryn.
