Description	:	Francis G. Gschwind age 95, of Callaway, NE passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Callaway Good Life Center in Callaway, NE. Francis was born January 10, 1924 to J. Arnold and Theresa G’Schwind. Francis was an avid train and local historian the love of his life was the 102 miles of the UP-Train Line known as the Kearney Black Hill Branch Line. Gschwind age 95, of Callaway, NE passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Callaway Good Life Center in Callaway, NE. Francis was born January 10, 1924 to J. Arnold and Theresa G’Schwind. Francis was an avid train and local historian the love of his life was the 102 miles of the UP-Train Line known as the Kearney Black Hill Branch Line. Francis spent his life photographing this branch line getting to know the people that worked on the railroad photographing everyone that worked on the line from Kearney to Stapleton personally knowing the people from the depot manager to the person that loaded the coal onto the trains. Francis other love was his family although never getting married he so admired his four brothers and their spouses along with all thirteen of his nieces and nephews. Francis co-authored seven steam locomotive books with his best friend Jim Ehernberger. Francis also wrote his book Kearney and Black Hills Branch Line the history of U.P. and the towns along this 102-mile line, his other love was his hometown and the surrounding communities. Francis was processed in death by his parents Arnold and Theresa, his brothers Karl and Evelyn, Paul and Leona, John and Dorothy, Herb and Lorraine, and nephews Herbert Jr., Bob. Francis leaves behind 10 nieces and nephews all of who loved Francis and he loved them as they were his own. Funeral services will be Friday, October 11, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. in the United Methodist Church in Callaway, NE with Pastor Fred Werkmeister officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway. NE. Arnold Funeral Home/Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements.
