I have noticed that these obituaries published in the Tri-Weekly and Semi-Weekly Ottumwa Couriers were often republished from a previous obituary, and I believe that is what happened in this case. Also, according to a summary of Hubert's death record in ancestry.com, he was born September 22, 1869, and that agrees with the birth date on his gravestone. His obituary gave his date of birth as September 5, 1859, and his age at death as 54 years. In looking at the census record, it appears that 1869 was the correct birth year for Hubert. I have transcribed the articles as written. --------------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Tri-Weekly Courier," Tuesday, March 24, 1914, Francis Hubert Hoskinson, 54 years of age, died this morning at 2 o'clock at the residence, 514 Wabash avenue, after a short illness, of pneumonia. Mr. Hoskinson was born in Fairfield September 5, 1859. He has been a resident of this city for the past four years. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. at Fairfield, of the Fraternal Aid, and of the South Ottumwa Baptist church. He is survived by his wife, Ollie Hoskinson, one daughter, Miss Cecil, two sons, Virdie and Hessell, all at home, his mother, Mrs. Maggie Hoskinson of Washington, and two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Richardson of Washington and Mrs. Mary Mooney of Higbee, Mo. --------------- Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the South Ottumwa Baptist church, in charge of Rev. G.W. Smith of Humeston, and Jonathan Lee. Interment in Shaul cemetery.
