He was ninety years old and was among the first settlers of Cowley county. Uncle Frank Whitson died Monday afternoon at his home near Hackney. He was ninety years old and was among the first settlers of Cowley county. The death of Uncle Frank Whitson on Monday of last wek [sic] was not unexpected [sic] as he had been very feeble for a year or more and had been very low for two or three weeks before death came. Mr. Whitson came to Kansas from Kentucky in 1882 and located on a farm two miles south of Winfield and was a very active and zealous worker as a minister in the Baptist church, going over the county and preaching in the school houses in many neighborhoods in the early days. He was very diligent in this work up to about 1900 when his health failed and he had to give up the work. Before or about this time he sold his farm and bought property in Hackney where he has resided up to his death. In this neighborhood and for several miles around it, Mr. Whitson was known and always spoken of as Uncle Frank. He was born April 16, 1819 and had passed his 90th birthday last year.
