Burial in St. John's Cemetery Word was received in this city Friday [Feb. 2, 1912] that Frank Hester, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hester, had died in the hospital at Rochester, Minnesota. The remains arrived in this city Saturday evening and were taken to the home of his parents in the northwest part of town. The funeral was held Monday afternoon. Services were conducted at St. Thomas church at 10 o'clock. There was a solemn requiem mass, with Rev. M. McNerney as celebrant and Rev. J. Kelly and Rev. C. P. Conway as deacon and sub-deacon. The burial was in St. John's cemetery. The pall bearers were Joseph P. Joyce, J.W. Neary, J.A. Duffy, John P. Bigley, P.C. Jackman and Matt Ryan. Many floral offerings, the gifts of family and friends, adorned the room in which the casket stood. Francis Joseph Hester was born at Greene, Butler county, Iowa, Dec. 18, 1877. His parents came to this county in 1884. They lived on their fine farm in Emmetsburg township until a few years ago when they moved to this city. Frank, as he was popularly known, grew to manhood in his home community, attending the local school and forming his early relationships among those with whom he mingled. Eight years ago he left Emmetsburg. He was subsequently an employee of the Clinton Nursery company of Owatonna, Minnesota. Thanksgiving he came home for a short stay. He was not feeling well and did not go about much. Jan. 3 he went to Minneapolis to enter a hospital. Two weeks later he went to Rochester to undergo an operation for the removal of gall stones from the bladder. The operation proved to be very severe and it finally resulted fatally. His father, brother Leo, and his sister, Miss Cora, were at his bed side when he passed away. The other members of the family are his mother, his brother, A.C. Hester of Houston, Texas, and his sister, Mrs. E.M. Thompson of Graettinger. Mr. Hester was an upright, industrious, frugal young man. Those who knew him when he was a small boy, and whose acquaintance ripened into intimate friendship as he grew older, formed an attachment for him that was strong and enduring. He was kind and genial and he won the confidence and the good will of those with whom he came in contact. He had a life of much promise before him and it is sad to think of his taking off in the bloom and strength of well developed manhood. However, such is life. The young, the fair, and the vigorous are often called before those who may not be so rugged and who may be advanced in years. Mr. and Mrs. Hester have met with a great loss in the death of one into whose future they had every reason to look with hope and pride and whose affectionate regard was to them a source of comfort in their declining years. They have the profound sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their hours of sorrow.
