Description	:	Francis Marion OBERSHAW, son of Antwine and Jedida OBERSHAW, was born at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, June 29, 1856. He moved with his parents to Beetown, Wisconsin, in 1857 to live until 1864 when they moved to Cassville, Wisconsin. The family remained here for some time but in 1877 the young Mr. OBERSHAW set out for Nebraska. He took a... Read More	Francis Marion OBERSHAW, son of Antwine and Jedida OBERSHAW, was born at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, June 29, 1856. He moved with his parents to Beetown, Wisconsin, in 1857 to live until 1864 when they moved to Cassville, Wisconsin. The family remained here for some time but in 1877 the young Mr. OBERSHAW set out for Nebraska. In May of 1877 at the age of twenty Mr. OBERSHAW left the end of the railroad line leading to Nebraska, which was Columbus, with fifteen cents in his pocket and walked across country to the Oakdale community. He took a homestead in the Star community in 1878. On February 21, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Rosetta CRAIG of Beetown, Wisconsin. To this happy union were born four boys and three girls. One boy, Francis M. OBERSHAW, preceded the parents in death at the age of about twenty-one. The first family home was on the old Sam Morgan place on Cedar Creek. The next year they moved to the homestead and built a "soddy" which was replaced by a log house. Here the family lived for twenty-nine years, leaving in 1909 to spend two years in California. Returning to this community in 1911 they settled in their new home on Oakdale. Mrs. OBERSHAW left this world on August 17, 1934. Mr. OBERSHAW was for about fifty years a member of the Order of Modern Woodmen. The OBERSHAW home is known far and near for its hospitality, and no traveler, friend or stranger was ever turned from its doors. In the later years of Mr. OBERSHAW’s life, he took a great interest in trees and things of the Master Creator. Many times when the family would go into his home they would see his Bible wherever he happened to be sitting. Recently when his granddaughter was learning the Twenty-third Psalm, he expressed his love for this Psalm and helped her learn it. Mr. OBERSHAW departed this life due to a heart attack on April 21, 1943, about 0 o’clock in the morning at the age of eighty-six years, nine months and twenty-two days. He leaves to mourn his departure three sons, Henry A. OBERSHAW of Moses Lake, Washington, Oscar O. OBERSHAW and Chester E. OBERSHAW of Oakdale; three daughters, Miss Etta at home, Mrs. DeVern CUNNINGHAM of Oakdale and Mrs. Harry SCOTT of Washington, Pa.; three daughters-in-law; two sons-in-law; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Arthur RONEY at the United Brethren church Monday afternoon. Interment was made in the Oakdale cemetery.
