Read More	The following has been contributed by Don Albers: His obituary is on page 6 C of the Lincoln Nebraska State Journal, 2 Sept 1945 From the Nebraska Signal Aug. 1945, page 1 OWENS, FRANCIS MARION—Francis Marion Owens, eldest son of Lewis Dudley and Harriet Wens, was born near Prairie City, Ia., October 11, 1869. At the age of four years he came to Fillmore county, Nebraska, with his parents, who homesteaded six miles southwest of Exeter. He grew to manhood on the farm, enduring the rigorous hardships and oftentimes the severe privations of the early pioneers of this middle west section of the United States. December 11, 1892, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Holmes at the Presbyterian church in Sawyer, Fillmore county. To this union were born five children: Edyth, Mrs. Truman Murphy of Portland, Ore.; Edna, Mrs. Irvin Auker of Portland, Ore.; Marcella, Mrs. Stanley Socher of Wilber, Neb; Eleanor, Mrs. Henry Labs of Los Angeles Cal.; and Rex E. Owens of Lincoln. For many years Mr. Owens engaged in farming the land, occupying the house lately removed where the Fairmont Army Base hospital now stands. The family later lived in Geneva a number of years. In 1925 the family moved to Lincoln, Neb., where Mr. Owens lived until his death, Friday, August 17, 1945. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, in November, 1941, by his father in April 1918, and his sister, Cora Owens Jones, in June, 1935. He leaves to mourn his passing his four daughters and their husbands, his son Rex and wife, eight grandchildren, two of whom are in the service, one in the Merchant Marines and one in the Navy, also two great-grandchildren, his aged mother, a sister, Dr. Claire E., a brother Ralph E. and wife Florence of Denver, Col., a brother-in-law, J. E. Jones of Exeter and many relatives and friends and his faithful housekeeper and nurse through his final illness, Mrs. Rose Casey of Lincoln. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Geneva, Neb., at 2 p. m. Monday, August 20, Rev. Elmer R. Peterson officiated. Burial was in the Geneva cemetery.
