San Bernardino Daily Sun (San Bernardino, CA.), P. 3, Col. 4 Sun., Feb. 27, 1921 FRANCIS MARION KELLER News that Francis Marion Keller had passed away last evening came as a shock to those who knew and loved the aged man, even though he had been ill for the past year, and they knew perhaps that he had not long to live. For 64 years he had lived in San Bernardino, on the place at Mill street, opposite the old race track, and his passing leaves a void that nothing can fill in the hearts of his loved ones. Francis M. Keller was born in the year 1845 in Illinois. Coming west he journeyed with others over the plains in ox-team, stopping at Salt Lake for a year or so, and then coming on to California and reaching San Bernardino in the year 1856. He had the rugged spirit of the pioneer, which falters before no obstacles, and carries on to the end that which he undertakes. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge in this city. Beside the widow, Mrs. Emma Keller, there remain four children: Frank B. Keller, Miss Clara Keller, teacher in the high school; Miss (Mr.?) Alma N. Keller and Mrs. George Holbrook, all of San Bernardino; also one brother, H. C. Keller, of Ocean park. Funeral arrangements have not been made and will be announced later by Stephens & Son. San Bernardino Daily Sun (San Bernardino, CA.), P. 10, Col. 2 Mon., Feb. 28, 1921 A TRIBUTE Just as the day ended and the shadows of the night were deepening, Francis Marion Keller went to sleep, that long, long, sleep, that to him, after months of intense suffering, brought rest, and the gentle spirit started on its beautiful, homeward journey. As we look upon his face today, peaceful in repose, our mind goes back to the morning of May 27, 1844, in a little community in Hancock county, Ill., where a little baby boy came to a home where were love and a welcome. And again we see the boy, now 12 years of age, who in 1856, with his parents, settled in old San Bernardino not far from the home that has been his for these more than 40 years. On December 24, 1868, Mr. Keller and Miss Emma Robinson were married and got them were born five children; three sons, Frank D., Alma N., and Henry (now deceased); and Miss Clara Keller and Mrs. George Holbrook; also six grandchildren, Gerald, son of Frank; Emma, Marion, Catherine and Stephens, children of Alma; and marjory, daughter of Mrs. Holbrook. Between the members of the family there exists strong ties of affection and during the long trying months of Mr. Keller's illness, he had the constant, loving attention of wife and children who were near him when the end came. Mr. Keller was a quiet man, gentle and unassuming in manner, living a plain, simple, earnest life in the open on his farm just east of the city a home he loved on account of nearly a half century of possession, where he was permitted to be when the summons came for him to say "Good-bye." As he mingled with his fellow-men, he formed strong friendships, these men miss him today, for they esteemed him as worthy of their confidence and their respect. And that great brotherhood, the Odd Fellows too, will feel the absence of their brother, who for more than a third of a century has gone in and out of the portals of the three links. And we, who but now and then paused in our hurried lives to speak our "greetings" with this friend of ours will feel that something has gone from us, that in the past made the day gladsome. And so, "when spring unlocks the flowers to paint the soil," we gather our blooms "in remembrances." REETTA V. Alvah Grant Fessenden of the First Presbyterian Church read the last service fo Francis Marion Keller yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence in Mill street. The house was filled with friends who came to mourn the loss of one they had loved through the years, while mingles with the sorrow at his loss was the rejoicing that he was at rest at last after so much suffering. Everything about the rooms and about the garden seemed to breathe the spirit of the kindly man who had gone in and out these many years past, and shedding fragrance were the many beautiful blossoms brought by those who loved him. Banked about the casket and standing about the room were the blossoms of spring - harbingers of the Eternal Springtime into which Mr. Keller had just passed. Remarked for its wonderful loveliness was the spray of Phelia rosebuds which lay the length of the casket and breathed the devoted love of the members of the bereaved family; from the Odd Fellows came an especially lovely wreath of carnations and violets; from the faculty of the San Bernardino High school a wreath of sweet peas and carnations; from the Arrowhead Parlor, No. 110, Native Sons of the Golden West, a pillow of pink carnations and candytuft; and from the students at the High school a standing wreath of red sweet peas and white candytuft, the colors of the school; from intimate friends came wreaths of violets and daffodils and of carnation blooms; while man other tokens of love were sent by friends.  Pallbearers were: James Shedden, George W. Curtis, Thomas Hadden, Duncan McDonald, Ben Barton, and T. W. Duckworth. Odd fellows, of which order the deceased was a member, conducted the service at the graveside, interment being in the Pioneer cemetery. Stephens & Son were in charge.
