Description	:	Francis Stevenson was born in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. They settled in Mason Co. Kentucky where he married Mary Jane Ford on December 24, 1800. From there they went to Ross Co. Ohio where they remained for a few years. They also settled in Greene and Clark Co's. Ohio. While living in Clark Co. From there they settled Augalize... Read More	Francis Stevenson was born in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. They settled in Mason Co. Kentucky where he married Mary Jane Ford on December 24, 1800. From there they went to Ross Co. Ohio where they remained for a few years. They also settled in Greene and Clark Co's. Ohio. While living in Clark Co. Ohio during the War of 1812 he was a Private in Captian Joseph Vance Company of Riflemen attached to the Second Regiment of Ohio Militia. By 1820 they were living in Urbana Twp. Champaign Co. Ohio. From there they settled Augalize Twp. Allen Co. Ohio in Section 17, where in 1829 he erected a cabin. In March 1830 he brought his family to Augalize Twp. Allen Co. Ohio and settled there. Francis Stevenson sold 118 acres of land in Mad River Twp. Champaign Co. Ohio in 1829 to John Hupp, David Ford and John Stevenson were witnesses along with John George Neise. Reference: Deed Book, Vol. 1 – p. 63, Many of the Shawnee Indians came to the Stevenson home to trade and visit. Among the Indians were Spibuck, Pht and Quilna. It is said the Shawnee Indians never intered their house without knocking. Interesting Note: Francis Stevenson came to Allen County in the fall of 1829. He and some of his friends built a log cabin on Section 17. They then took a wagon load of corn and meat, and stored them in the loft for the use of his family when they would come in the spring. The door was held shut only by a wooden latch. In March 1830, Francis Stevenson and family arrived at the cabin and were greatly surprised to find that the corn and hams were undisturbed by the Indians, who knew that they were stored there. In a few hours, an old Indian and his band made the family a visit. The Chief desired to buy corn for his ponies and meat for the Indians as they were short of the supplies. Mr. Stevenson said that he could supply both. The chief exchanged venison for some corn and hams. Mr. Stevenson says that even though the Indians knew the supplies were there, and they were short of supplies, not an ear of corn had disappeared. They were nature's children, and possessed the most unflinching sense of true honesty.
