Frank A. Cushman, after an absence of more than forty years, was returned to final resting place beside the wife who proceeded him in death after a very brief period of married life. She died in the early years of the present century. Frank was the son of Henry and Ester Cushman. His father was born in Vermont; his Grandfather was a veteran of the War of 1812. His mother's maiden name was Clark. She was born in Wisconsin. Frank was born in Fayette County, Iowa. September, 5, I860. When he was seven years of age the family came to Buena Vista County and settled on a homestead, three miles north of Newell. The farm is now the residence of O. F. Bellows. During the homesteading years the grandfather died and was buried on the farm. The exact location of the grave is unknown but the fact of his burial there is well attested by old time residents. After improving up on the homestead claim the farm was sold and the family moved to Newell and established their home. The father became custodian of the Newell Cemetery and held that position for many years. Frank grew to manhood here and in the late nineties was married to Mrs. Lida Sullivan. For a brief period they farmed near Varina. After a short married life, his wife died and Frank resumed life in Newell. Here he served a number of years as street Commissioner. Shortly after the turn of the century he moved to South Dakota where for more than thirty years he was employed by the Dakota Central Bell Telephone Company. A few years ago he was retired and pensioned. He took up his residence with a niece; Mrs. Robbins of Sioux City, remaining in her home until his death on April 17, 1941. Funeral services were in charge of the Pastor Rev Dr. Karl W. G. Hiller, who spoke from the text; John 14, 2. Music was furnished by a mixed Quartette composed of Mrs. Ethel Hobbie, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Corderman, Mr. Frank Witter with Mrs. Edna Witter as accompanist.
