On Easter Sunday, 1889, his parents gave him reluctant consent to go to America. He left his home on May 1 and three weeks later he arrived in Traer where he lived for several years, working on a farm and attending school. After moving to Elberon he became a mason, his life's occupation. He was married November 25, 1897 to Mary Peterka. They were the parents of six children, five of whom survive. They are Ben of Cedar Rapids; Glen of Coon Rapids; Lester and Ernest Dvorak .and Mrs. Wilbur (Rose) Wiese of Elberon. A daughter, Mrs. Amos (Inez) Kubik preceded him in death. Mr. Dvorak also owned and operated with his son's help a farm southwest of Elberon. He retired 10 years ago and made his home in nursing homes. He moved to Tama when the nursing home in Belle Plaine closed. At the age of 21, Mr. Dvorak became a member of the IOOF lodge at Elberon. He was a member for over 67 years and had served in every office. He served six years as a representative from District 88 to the Iowa Grand lodge. In March, 1956, he was honored by the Elberon Rebekahs for completing 52 years of membership in that order. He was also a Mason. Survivors include his five children, 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. Mrs. Dvorak died in 1938. Services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Elberon Methodist church Rev. Norman Kauble of Tama was in charge. Casket bearers were Everett Wayman Charles Upah, F. M. Dvorak, Vernon Wayman, William Vileta and Louis Vileta. Burial was in the National cemetery near Vining.
