Frank was born on September 11th, 1918 in Denison, Iowa to Charles and Nellie (Scott) Christie. Christie, 99, of Yakima, passed away peacefully at the Cottage in the Meadow on Friday, March 23rd, 2018. Frank was born on September 11th, 1918 in Denison, Iowa to Charles and Nellie (Scott) Christie. After his schooling Frank joined the Civilian Conservation Corps before marrying Irene Huebner on November 9th, 1941. On February 9th, 1942 Frank was drafted in to the Army Air Force and was ordered to attend Perry Technical Institute. He and his classmates lived at the Ahtanum Farm Labor Camp (now Ahtanum Youth Park) and marched to Perry Tech every day to study airframe mechanics. After his training, Frank served with the 71st Service Squadron in New Caledonia and Guadalcanal before being discharged on June 26th, 1945. He and Irene moved to Yakima in 1946 where he worked as a roofer before partnering with his brother-in-law, Bill Hall, in Hall & Chris Sewer and Septic. Frank and Bill poured and installed septic tanks and systems, and did excavation work for many years. Frank continued on his own in this line of work well into his 70s and remained an active and dynamic man up until his death. Frank lived in the same house he and Irene bought in 1955 and, up until recently, lived completely (and fiercely) independently, shopping, cooking, taking care of the yard and running errands. He exasperated his family with his yearly drives to Iowa to visit his kid sister Ellen (age 97) and when they tried to talk him out of it, he simply left without telling anybody! The last time he did this was this past September at age 99! The last few months of Frank’s life, he finally decided he did need some help and moved in with his loving niece Diane Traner and her husband Robert. Under their care, he continued to enjoy life until the very end when his body decided it was finally time to go. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herbert, Harry & Fred and Frank’s loving wife Irene. He is survived by sister Ellen Murphy of Blair, Nebraska, favorite sister-in-law Verdona Bemmer and by numerous nieces and nephews including Diane Traner, Denise Brookman, Patricia Adams, Deborah Lucas-Pemstein, Brent & Dennis Miller and Melissa Richter. Also surviving are Glen Brookman, Judy & Darrel Rhodes, Dorothy Ebert, Lawrence Ebert and good friend Richard. At Frank’s request, there will be no services. Donations may be made in Frank’s name to the Humane Society of Yakima.
