Description	:	FRANK A. JOHNSON Frank Arthur Johnson, son of Carl Luther Emanuel and Rebecca Lenore Parker Johnson, was born in Pierce Township rural Essex, Iowa, on December 8, 1911. He was the oldest in a family of nine children. He grew up on a farm and attended Windy Summit rural school. On April 4, 1936, Frank was united in marriage with Gwendola Loretta Westman of Essex, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Margie Ann and three sons Terry, Richard, and Harve were born. He was the oldest in a family of nine children. He grew up on a farm and attended Windy Summit rural school. On April 4, 1936, Frank was united in marriage with Gwendola Loretta Westman of Essex, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Margie Ann and three sons Terry, Richard, and Harve were born. Frank and Loretta had observed their forty-fifth wedding anniversary this past April. Following their marriage, they farmed northwest of Essex and Frank was in the heavy construction business until his semi-retirement, when he sold the construction equipment in 1977. Frank was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Essex, where he was baptized in 1948. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Marion and Harold, two sisters, Norma Arnold and Lauretta Maher. Frank is survived by his wife, Loretta, four children and their husbands and wives: Margie Ann and Gene Winchester of Council Bluffs, Iowa: Terry and Marcene Johnson of Essex, Iowa; Richard and Mary Anne Johnson of Essex, Iowa; and Harve and Mary Ann Johnson of Essex, Iowa. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Lynn Johnson of Essex, Iowa, Raymond Johnson of Long Beach California, two sisters, Helen McCall of Leasburg, Florida, and Willa Mae Hampton of Corvalis, Oregon. Frank passed away suddenly Friday afternoon, June 12, 1981 from the Evangelical Covenant Church, Essex, Iowa, the Rev. Jerold Nugent officiating. Mrs. Robert Young was the organist and there was a vocal trio composed of Jim Bengtson, Joe Bengtson, and John Bengtson. Caring for flowers were Mrs. Glenn Carlson, Mrs. Martin Head, Mrs. Bernard Holmes, and Mrs. Raymond Holmes. The memory register was attended by Mrs. Frank Royer. Ushers were Frederick Olson and Curtis Rydberg. Honorary bearers were Dale Barton, Kenneth Drake, Raymond Holmes, Jim McDonald, Glenn Carlson, Martin Head, Glen Klepinger, and Frank Royer. Casket bearers were Leland Ackerberg, Don Holmes, Bernard Slater, John Head, Bill Royer, and Jack Tudor. Interment was in the Essex Cemetery, Essex, Iowa, New Addition, Fourth Row, Lot 11.
