Description	:	Frank Byron Kester, son of Byron and Alma Schaechtele Kester, was born July 3, 1914 in Eureka and died of Cancer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital on September 3, 1974. He attended Eureka schools, graduating from Eureka high school in 1933. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an engineer and waist gunner on a B-17 with the Eight Air Force in England and flew 35 bombing missions over Germany. He attended Eureka schools, graduating from Eureka high school in 1933. He was a member of Fidelity Lodge No 106 A.F. & A.M. in Eureka. On June 20, 1937, he was married to Margaret Dayle Ott in Eureka. She preceded him in death October 9, 1965. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Frank (Margaret) Hess of Thayer, John of Coffeyville and Shirley of the home. He had been a meat cutter and electrician in Eureka for many years before moving to Lawrence about 12 years ago. On February 24, 1966, he was married to Edith Cool in Ottawa. Survivers include his wife and children, seven step-children, Joseph E. Cool, Walter B. Cool, Mark E. Cool, Sara Leslie, Susan Cool, Sandra Cool and Jane Cool all of Lawrence, his mother and Step-father, Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Shelhamer of South Haven; two brothers, Wilber E. Kester of Goldsboro, N.C. and Dwight W. Kester of Topeka; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Phillip. Funeral services were held at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Lawrence on September 4, 1974 with Rev. Wayne Castle officiating. Graveside services conducted by Rev. Gilbert Daniel and member of the Masonic Lodge and VFW were held the same day in Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. From Eureka Herald September 1974
