''''''''''''''''''''''' Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), February 17, 1944, p. 1, col. 4 HELD AT THE SAME HOUR DOUBLE FUNERAL SERVICES For Frank Cihal, Sr., and Eight-Year-Old, Frances Kouma Dwight, Feb. 14 – Double services for Frank Cihal, Sr., 61, who died in St. Elizabeth's hospital, Lincoln, February 9, and Frances Kouma, 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton J. Kouma, Dwight, who died Thursday, Feb. 10, were held at the same hour, 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning and in the same church, Dwight Assumption church, with Rev. Wensceclaus Michalicka saying requiem high mass for his two departed parish members. Interment for both was in Assumption church cemetery. Due to weather conditions Mr. Cihal's funeral was postponed from Friday morning. Pallbearers for the Cihal services were Albert Cihal, Mike Dvorak, Joe Hofpar, Adolph Helman, Frank Karpisek and John Trojan. Coming from away for these services were Frank Tesar and Miss Emily Cihal, Omaha; George Masek and son of Valparaiso; Anton Tesar of Tobias, Mrs. Fanny Tesar of Milligan; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Liskovec of Osceola and Mr. and Mrs. John Eret, Bruno. Richard Heble, Leonard Nekuda, Bohumil Oborny and Joseph Prochaska were pallbearers for burial of the girl. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Jakub of Brainard were out-of-town attendants at this funeral. Life Sketch of Frank Cihal, Sr. Mr. Cihal's death was result of internal injuries received when kicked by a horse a week before his passing. He died in St. Elizabeth's hospital, Lincoln, where he was taken three days after the accident. A surgical operation which he underwent Monday, Feb. 7, failed to save his life. Born in Zasonice, Moravia, on November 3, 1882, Frank Cihal left his home at the age of 14 years to study music and learn the shoemaker's trade, practicing the latter trade for two years. Upon reaching the age of 20 years he came to America, worked in Wahoo a few years, began farming near Tobias in 1906. Later he bought a farm near Dwight where he lived until 1936 when he retired. After making a trip to his home land, Czechoslovakia, to visit his aged mother, two brothers and sister, he returned to the United States, purchased a new home in Rescue, where he lived when not being with his children in their homes. Mrs. Cihal, the former Miss Anna Chloupek, to whom he was married August 26, 1907, in Dwight, died March 27, 1935. Two sons, Frank, Jr., and Joseph, and three daughters, Mrs. Anna Hofpaur, Ulysses, Mrs. Christine Helman, Brainard, and Miss Emily Cihal, Omaha, survive Mr. Cihal, as do a step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Karpisek, Ulysses; a brother, Albert Cihal, Brainard, and a sister, Mrs. Fanny Tesar, Tobias. There are two brothers, Rudolph and Anton, living in Czechoslovakia. Three sisters died there, two brothers, Thomas and Joseph were killed there in World War I. There are eleven grandchildren, one, Thomas Karpisek, S 2/c, stationed with the navy in San Diego, Calif. Mr. Cihal was affiliated with the Catholic Workman lodge. Death of Child Frances Kouma, aged eight years and 10 days, died after illness of one day. She was born February 3, 1936, in Dwight and had lived here all her life. Surviving her are her parents, a brother, Anton, and sister, Bessie. ___ Card of Thanks – To all who showed a spirit of friendliness through their many kind deeds at time of death and funeral of our father we extend our most sincere thanks.
